Mabul World Turtle Day at Borneo Divers

Again Borneo Divers has the privilege to hold the Mabul World Turtle day from 3-8 May 2016 at our Borneo Divers Mabul Resort. The great efforts of Dr Pushpa of the Borneo Marine Research Institute at University Malaysia Sabah, the committee members and all the volunteers to the event demonstrating CARING and SAVING the sea turtles, one of the endangered species in the world is incredible.
World Turtle Day, began on 23 May 2000, brings attention to, and increases the knowledge of and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourages people to help them survive and thrive. The celebration of ‘Mabul World Turtle Day’ commenced in Mabul back in year 2013. This outreach and educational programme welcomes resort guests and local residents of all ages in Mabul to allow them to get hands-on experiences with sea turtles and to learn about the research and conservation activities being conducted during these events.
The census and collection of data of the sea turtles which can live for over 100 years, in relation to their size, health and foraging grounds are so vital in the understanding of these endangered species in years to come.
The Mabul World Turtle Day, apart from catching the turtles, have they tagged and health checked, includes some educational games for the junior participants, and a talk on sea turtles by Dr. Pushpa for the school students in Mabul as well as resort guests at our event hall.
A total of 79 turtles (65 greens and 14 hawksbills) were being tagged in 21 dives over the duration. Congratulations and hurray to our dedicated team members again!!!!
Our next Turtle Tagging event has been scheduled on November 14-18, 2016 at our Borneo Divers Mabul Resort. We hope to see you there!!
